By stripping away the silence of the traditional white cube, this dual-level space on the Singel treats art appreciation as something that happens naturally over coffee. The venue occupies a historic canal house where centuries-old floorboards meet the clean, minimal lines of a renovation by Copenhagen studio Atelier Axo. It feels less like a commercial gallery and more like a private residence where the door happens to be open.
Founders Linde and Justus divide the house’s functions. Linde curates the art—mostly emerging contemporaries—while Justus manages the café tucked into a nook on the ground floor. The layout allows you to order a flat white and carry it with you as you move through the rooms, viewing the current exhibition without a gallerist hovering over your shoulder. The shows rotate every three months and avoid strict themes, allowing a wide range of work to share the walls.
Seating is limited, and the few tables tend to fill up quickly as people settle in with plates of mushroom toast or beef ravioli. Despite the foot traffic on the street outside, the interior maintains a quiet, domestic pace. Between the art and the kitchen, a small retail section stocks design objects like books and tableware – items that fit the specific aesthetic of the house.
