Barbecue pros run this English-style pub, cooking comfort food classics over live Missouri hardwood coals. Wagyu burgers and house-smoked pastrami share the menu with shepherd's pie and traditional fish and chips.
Just across the Taneycomo bridge from Branson, you’ll find Downing Street Pour House in historic downtown Hollister. The pub is located inside the Ye Olde English Inn, a building that dates to the early 1900s. It was established in 2017 by the award-winning Gettin' Basted competition barbecue team, who brought their live-fire cooking knowledge to a completely different style of cuisine. This is not a barbecue spot. Instead, the kitchen uses barrel smokers and live Missouri hardwood coals to turn out American comfort food and traditional English pub classics. The interior aims for a cozy, warm pub atmosphere, though some of the furnishings in one dining room have more of a country diner feel. There’s also some outdoor patio seating right on the street. The menu is built entirely around that wood-fired cooking. A whole muscle grind Snake River Farms wagyu burger is the foundation for several options, including a popular pimento cheese version. You’ll also find pub standards like Fish and Chips and a Shepherd’s Pie made with a rich lamb and red wine reduction. The smokers are used for house-smoked Pastrami, and the menu rounds out with American fare like a Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich, plus prime rib and pork chop specials. Gluten-free buns are available for the sandwiches. The full bar serves expertly blended cocktails like old fashions, and the rotating tap list features local and craft beers alongside staples like Guinness and Stella Artois. The one thing to know is that the entrance can be tricky to spot – it’s shared with the inn and isn’t clearly marked as the way into the pub.
