The core of The Butterfly Palace is a large, glass conservatory where thousands of tropical butterflies fly freely through a warm, humid habitat. Inside, a winding stone path takes you through dense tropical foliage and past small water features designed to maintain the climate. The butterflies themselves – species like the vibrant Blue Morpho and the giant Owl Butterfly – are imported weekly as chrysalises from farms around the world. You can watch them emerge in a special viewing area before they are released into the aviary.
Small nectar flowers are handed out upon entry, and the main activity is moving slowly through the space, trying to coax a butterfly to land on you. It's common to see people wearing bright red or yellow clothing to help attract them. Before you enter the conservatory, a short 3D film explains the butterfly life cycle, providing some context for the main event.
Beyond the aviary, the experience shifts to a series of smaller, kid-focused attractions. The Banyan Tree Bungee Adventure is a dense maze of elastic ropes meant for climbing and crawling, while the Emerald Forest is a more traditional mirror maze with a rainforest theme. There is also the Living Rainforest Science Center, a quieter room lined with terrariums holding geckos, poison dart frogs, and salamanders. Staff are usually on hand here to answer questions and provide some background on the animals. The entire visit is self-paced and a reliable all-weather option, particularly on rainy or intensely hot Branson afternoons. A key detail is that the admission wristband is valid for three consecutive days, so you can return without paying again.
