More than 24,000 dice form the surface of the main bar here, sealed beneath epoxy in a room that leans heavily into its dive aesthetic. This is Uptown’s answer to the polished cocktail lounge – a loud, unpretentious space where the jukebox dictates the volume and conversation often happens at a shout. Since 2006, the approach has been deliberately retro, focusing on regulars rather than trends.
You get carded almost immediately upon entry, a door policy that tends to apply regardless of age. Inside, the floor plan is tight. Between the pool table and a handful of vintage couches, seating runs out fast, leaving most of the crowd standing drink-in-hand as the night wears on. The pool table itself is a central feature, usually commanding a queue of players waiting for the next game while navigating the crush of people moving between the bar and the back patio.
The kitchen turns out basket food like flavored tater tots, subs, and Chicago-style hot dogs, providing necessary ballast for the heavy pours coming from the well. Whiskey is the primary currency here – specifically Jameson, which the bar sells in high enough volume to stock its own custom barrels. Pickle shots are another frequent order, appearing on the dice-covered bar top alongside pints during the happy hour that starts in the mid-afternoon.
