Hamburg is connected to the North Sea by the Elbe River, and is both a major harbor city and a wonderful place to visit. Crossed by hundreds of canals, flush with parks, and well-connected, areas such as the Neustadt and Altstadt are easy to get to and explore. Be sure to visit the Binnenalster - full of boats and surrounded by busy cafes on sunny days.
