Bindaas holds down a busy corner of Rumfordstraße and Reichenbachstraße in the Gärtnerplatz district, in a space that feels a world away from a typical Indian restaurant. Inside, the design is a mix of industrial and plush – think colorful, eclectic decor and neon signs that are meant to capture the lively energy of an Indian bazaar. It’s a large, open room that manages to feel both cozy and constantly buzzing with activity.
The food follows a similar idea, presenting traditional family recipes with a modern approach. The focus is on street food and North Indian classics, all built around the founders’ mission to create a sense of connection to home cooking. You’ll find starters like Papri Chaat, fried spinach, and Gobi Manchurian, a popular battered cauliflower dish. For mains, the Thalis are a central part of the experience – mixed platters available with vegetarian, chicken, or lamb options – but you’ll also see plenty of Chicken Tikka and Chicken Masala coming out of the kitchen. The dessert menu includes items like Moong Daal Halwa, a warm lentil dish with honey milk and cardamom.
The place is often full and can accommodate large groups, which means making a reservation in advance is standard practice here, for both lunch and dinner. Portions are known to be generous, and main dishes are typically served with rice. If you have a preference for heat, the kitchen is happy to adjust the spice level – you just need to let them know when you order.
