Vibrant East Village dining room serving the regional classics of northern India. The newsprint-lined space is always packed, with groups sharing large pots of goat biryani and rich butter chicken.
A hallway lined with Indian newsprint wallpaper is your entrance to Adda, a name that translates directly to a place for conversation and gathering. The space lives up to it – it’s a cozy, layered room with warm wood tones and basket light fixtures that feels perpetually busy and full of energy. As the East Village outpost of the Unapologetic Foods group’s original Long Island City spot, the mission remains the same: serving regional Indian food exactly as it would be found in homes, without any adjustments for Western palates. Under Head Chef Neel Kajale, the menu digs into the classics of northern India. The tandoor turns out smoky lamb chops and Bhatti Da Murgh, a style of grilled chicken. Curries and biryanis are the heart of the menu, with the complex Goat Biryani often being the main event for a shared table. You’ll see other dishes like a rich seabass fish curry or the signature "The Butter Chicken Experience" arrive in heavy Le Creuset Dutch ovens. The kitchen also sends out more distinct plates, like a Green Pepper Bone Marrow served with coconut pao or a Curry Leaf Crab. The experience is designed to be communal. A cart carrying pickles and papad might be brought to your table, or you’ll see chaat prepared fresh right beside you. Most of the menu is built for sharing, and it’s an ideal setup for groups of three or four people. The room is almost always full, so reservations are essential for a table. For walk-ins, your best bet is to try for a spot at the bar.
