Social wellness club centered on an outdoor garden with a 40-person sauna, cold plunges, and a fire pit. Guided contrast therapy is the core ritual – a circuit designed for communal connection rather than quiet solitude.
I have a favorite coffee shop in every neighborhood.
In a renovated masonry and timber warehouse in Lower Nob Hill, a 2,500-square-foot outdoor space called the Sauna Garden forms the heart of Alchemy Springs, a social wellness club. The whole concept is built around a communal, self-directed thermal circuit, inspired by European and Asian bathing cultures but with a distinctly modern, social feel. This isn't a quiet, traditional spa – it's designed as a place for connection. The garden itself is centered on a massive, 40-person communal sauna equipped with immersive sound and lighting. From there, you move between outdoor elements like cold plunge pools, heated thermal benches for relaxing, and open-air shower walls, with a fire pit acting as a central gathering point. The experience is about moving through these hot and cold cycles at your own pace. While many people come to use the facilities socially, a more structured option is the 90-minute guided contrast therapy session. These are quiet, focused events led by practitioners who guide you through a sequence of sauna, cold plunge, breathwork, and mindfulness to regulate the nervous system. The club also hosts other wellness events, from yoga and acroyoga classes to sound healing and live music. Keep in mind that some of the facilities, like the changing rooms, are temporary as the larger indoor bathhouse is still under construction. You’ll want to bring your own towel, robe, and sandals, though rentals are available. Swimsuits are mandatory. On certain evenings, the space transforms for social events like the "Soft Medicine Speakeasy," which includes herbal elixirs, cacao, and kava.
