Cavallo Point Lodge occupies a former U.S. Army post, Fort Baker, set on national park land right at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge. The entire property is built around a ten-acre parade ground, with a ring of restored, white-painted Colonial Revival buildings that once served as officers' quarters. With their red roofs and wide porches, these structures give the grounds a distinct, historic character. The lodge offers two completely different styles of accommodation. Inside the historic buildings, you’ll find rooms with original details like tin ceilings and gas fireplaces that look out onto the parade ground. Set on the hillside above are the contemporary rooms, built with a focus on sustainability and designed to maximize the views of the bridge through panoramic windows. These modern rooms have bamboo furnishings and private entrances, feeling much more connected to the surrounding landscape. Beyond the rooms, the lodge has a few distinct centers of activity. There's the Healing Arts Center & Spa, a cooking school with a regular schedule of themed classes, and a couple of restaurants – Sula for Mediterranean-inspired fine dining and Farley for more casual American food. The location means the weather is often foggy and windy, even when it’s sunny just a few miles away. A shuttle runs guests into downtown Sausalito, though many people stay on-site, using the direct access to the surrounding hiking trails. The expansive grounds make it a popular spot for weddings and events, especially on weekends. The entire property is pet-friendly, so dogs are a common sight around the parade ground.
