Outdoor beer garden set within a surf shop complex, pouring from forty taps of local craft beer. A separate counter from Hook Fish Co. dishes up sustainable fish tacos and burritos to crowds at communal picnic tables.
Proof Lab Beer Garden is the open-air hub connecting the surf shop, skate shop, and plant nursery that make up the Proof Lab campus in Mill Valley. The entire space is outdoors, a casual collection of communal picnic tables that serves as a central gathering point between the different businesses. Its garden-like setting is amplified by the adjacent CNL Native Plant Nursery, which forms one of its borders. The logistics here are important to know. Food and drinks are handled by two separate operations, so you’ll need to make two stops. All the food comes from the Hook Fish Co. counter, which focuses on sustainably sourced seafood with a Californian-Mexican influence. The menu is tight and consistent, built around fresh fish tacos, burritos, poke, and ceviche. On the tables, you’ll find bottles of their house-made carrot habanero hot sauce. For drinks, you head to a different bar where 40 taps pour a rotating lineup of local craft beers, ciders, and kombuchas. Seating is all first-come, first-served, and the atmosphere is relaxed and communal, drawing a mix of families and groups. It’s an explicitly dog-friendly spot, and you’ll usually see water bowls scattered around for pets. Heaters are set out for when the weather gets cold, but the vibe is always very much outdoors. It’s the kind of place people stop for a beer and tacos after browsing the surf shop or picking up plants next door, making it the social center of the whole complex.
