Located inside the New Bahru creative cluster on Kim Yam Road, Morning is the physical showroom for a high-tech coffee system, and it’s not a cafe in the typical sense. The centerpiece of the small, cozy space is a long tasting bar, which is where the entire experience is focused. This isn’t a place where baristas make you a flat white to order; instead, it’s a retail store designed to demonstrate the company’s home brewing equipment.
The main product is the Morning Machine, an IoT-enabled device that uses Nespresso-compatible capsules. It connects to an app, giving you precise control over brewing variables like temperature and pressure through pre-programmed recipes tailored to specific coffees. The whole visit is built around guided tastings. You sit at the bar, and the staff will walk you through the machine’s features while brewing different capsules for you to sample. A cold brew tea is often served between flights as a palate cleanser.
The other half of the business is the marketplace of coffee. The walls are lined with a huge, curated selection of over 120 different capsules sourced from around 40 specialty roasters across the globe – partners include London’s Assembly Coffee, Melbourne’s ST. ALi, and local roaster PPP Coffee. While you can get a pastry from Plain Vanilla Bakery, the primary function of the store is to let you test drive the hardware and discover new coffees before committing to buying a machine or a box of capsules for home.
