Miznon is chef Eyal Shani’s take on Israeli street food, served out of a bustling, open-fronted space on Stanley Street. The whole place spills out onto the corridor of its Telok Ayer location, with a shaded alfresco area that blurs the line between inside and out. The interior is rustic and informal, with a mix of high stools along a counter, standard tables, and a set of wooden steps repurposed as seating with crates for tables. From almost any seat, you have a direct view into the energetic open kitchen.
The menu is built around pita, which arrives soft and fluffy. Fillings range from lamb kebab and candied beef brisket to moussaka and a fish and chips version. Beyond the sandwiches, the restaurant is just as focused on its vegetable dishes. You’ll see the Baby Cauliflower Flower on nearly every table, and other plates like the Ratatouille or the Run-over Potato with sour cream are designed for sharing.
The experience here is defined by a certain casual generosity. You’ll find complimentary free-flow pita, tahini, and jalapeño available to start, and most tables order a few different things to pass around. Because the space is so open to the street, the dining room can feel quite warm, adding to the boisterous, street-side atmosphere. For anyone celebrating a birthday, a complimentary apple crumble dessert is frequently brought out by the staff.
