Solarice Wellness Spas is built from a series of repurposed shipping containers, a design that fits right into the industrial landscape of Granville Island. A small courtyard garden paved with dark granite acts as a buffer from the street, leading you to the entrance of your private wellness pod. Each container houses a complete, self-guided thermal circuit that is entirely open to the sky above.
The experience is designed for one or two people and is completely secluded, allowing for a clothing-optional session. Inside, the circuit follows a distinct path through different temperatures and textures. It begins with a deep soaking tub made of natural cedar, filled with fresh hot water for each appointment. From there, you move to the Wellpod – an infrared sauna lined with walls of glowing Himalayan salt bricks. Part of its guided program involves the room fading to complete darkness before the light slowly returns. The circuit also includes a step-down cold plunge pool and a unique lounging area made of smooth, heated riverstones.
A subtle soundtrack with gentle timing cues is the only thing that directs your movement from one station to the next. Because the space is open to the elements, a session during a classic Vancouver rainfall is a completely different experience, with many people booking specifically for that reason. The whole thing runs on a timed booking, either 90 or 120 minutes, though the longer session is often needed to move through the circuit without feeling rushed.
